Holding His Horses

This video is our first submission for Pet Centrics' Basic Obedience Class, and is the first ever set of videos I've edited, ever. Snaps for me and Odie!

Odie has been very good with impulse control lately. He knows that it's wrong to be all fidgety and sneaky when trying to get treats, and that sitting still and behaving will get him what he wants. When I was shooting this video, there were times when he would successfully do three repetitions in a row, so it's just one long take, then I would give him some playtime! Such a good actor, getting it in one take!

As you may notice, the videos I'm taking are all tight shots. It can get pretty frustrating for me, but I don't want to risk setting up a tripod only to have Odie knock it over and wreck my camera. Down side, my perfect pink camera now has a few scratches. There was one instance when he bit my camera near the flash, and another time when he suddenly charged towards it like a bull. It's a reminder to work on my reflexes.

So now whenever I shoot, I have treats in my pocket, camera on my left hand, my right hand dispenses the treats, and Odie's lead is worn around either my left wrist or my right ankle.

Anyway, TADAAAAAA!!!

Just a quick note, I've been trying to keep the videos short, but sometimes he takes a while to stop trying to grab the treat. I also am getting a bit worried about his furrowed brows when he's focusing. I feel that if he does that for too long, he might explode!

  1. They are awfully cute when they are stopping themselves from getting the treat.

Oh no. I've only done this in two places and I haven't been taking a video every time. :( Plus, we don't get to do the games! (Bon has a really soft bite so it's frustrating to play tug with him, hahaha).

Can't wait for our Christmas break so I can be a full-time human. Haha.

    1. I know! Even Heart's human says Odie's focus is so intense when there's a treat in front of him. He has a game face with wrinkles on his forehead :))

Bon does seem really gentle. I know goldens are known for that, but I didn't expect him to be THAT soft :)) I've observed also that he's not very responsive with tugging and rough play in general. I remember he jogged towards you when we were learning the first game hahaha!

I'm gonna have to do an extra shoot sometime soon. I didn't realize we only did 2 repetitions of impulse control instead of 3. Shoot all you can during Christmas break!!!

    2. Shy type kasi siya. :| It's frustrating!!! He likes playing it at home but even if I push him, he doesn't get too encouraged (or yun na talaga yung most excited bite nya. Kasi when he gets very excited, he bites me pero it's very very soft)... I think pag sa unfamiliar place medyo distracted talaga siya kasi he's fearful. :| My dad took him for a walk and said Bon wanted to go back home when a small dog barked at him. :| He's only rough when he's playing with Boo.

Boo has the harder bite but he knows bite inhibition very well. He's very wary when playing with me or taking treats from my hand. But he's not as excited as Bon when it comes to playing tug!!! Baliktad! :))

When we come back to class, ang laki na nang nilaki nila, we'll all be surprised! (Well, except for Bernard kasi he's an adult na haha)

    3. Awww... your dogs are so kind! Brix's human shared that Brix is afraid of shih tzus. Makes me want to coddle a golden hahaha!

Si Odie kasi when I say tug, he really means business! There's a spring in his step, he zooms when he sees the toy move, I sometimes get dizzy after playing with him kasi ang likot niya talaga! Although good job siya for being less nippy!

I saw the photo of Boo playing with Odie during puppy class orientation. They were so little!!! :(( On that note, nasaan na kaya yung photos nung last session ng puppy class? Heehee!

    4. Ang weird nila! They're supposed to be friendly. Hahaha si Boo he will bark at or be super interested in any dog he meets during a walk. Sometimes we just stop while looking at the dog (and the owner) walk away...

I almost forgot about that!!! :| Inaabangan ko din yung photos dati... :)) (Hi Doc! Haha)

    5. HAHA SO CUTE!!! Maybe he really wants to meet the other dogs (some owners are such snobs though). Tapos nahihiya lang kapag malapit na sila?

Diba? I let our driver take photos on the last day, pero puro si Odie lang pinicturan niya. RARRR... I wanted a fair coverage! And I want to see the profesh photos heehee!
