Puppy Behavior Issues

We have a case of the snarky little puppy.

Odie has a tendency to eat everything he sets his eyes and nose on. You know it's not good when the front yard has lost its greenness, and there are leaves and ROOTS all over the place. He also loves biting newspaper and shredding it to bits. His leash needs replacing because he also keeps biting it. Even putting on his collar requires giving treats because he bites the collar the moment it comes near his mouth.

He also starts to bite when people carry him for a long time. There are countless scratches on my hands and arms from training him. It feels good somehow, like how friends ask me why my arms have scratches, and I'm all, "those are battle scars from being all Cesar Millan," but of course, the wounds could hurt, too!

I also noticed that Odie has a tendency to be really bratty and aggressive when he's sleepy, instead of just laying on the ground and well, falling asleep! He barks endlessly and bites his leash (or bites ME!) and runs around and around, then when led to his crate, falls asleep in a split-second!

Perhaps the most fun but disturbing issue of all, however, is controlling his outlet for excitement. He did it the first time to one of the Golden Retrievers' hind leg in puppy class orientation. I asked his teacher about it and she said that it's just his way of expressing extreme happiness and excitement. He does it or tries to do it whenever I'm holding a treat in my right arm, did it multiple times last Sunday in Circulo Verde and Eton Centris to Moxie, another big dog's hind leg, and even to Bea's leg!!! Odie keeps humping! I mean, it's cute and funny to look at, like it came right out of an Adam Sandler movie, but since it's socially unacceptable, I also don't know how to deal with it.

HELP!

Meeting the Ladies

Here's a video of Odie taking treats and sharing happy moments with two females that he met at the Circulo Verde Doggie Trick or Treat! Just like getting acquainted with dogs, Odie doesn't have apprehensions about meeting new people. He could easily get dognapped because anyone and everyone can be his friend :) Odie could teach me a thing or two about approaching and talking to strangers. What a sweetheart!

Odie's First Full Day Out

...which is also his first blog entry! The videos from past trainings and homework are still being edited by Idea Orchard Media, and I'm still working on the blog entries to accompany the homework photos and videos. We have a truckload of photos and videos of Odie, but a lot of them are just fun tricks that were not taught in school. So yeah, a lot of stuff to finish before he graduates from Puppy Foundations Class at Pet Centrics! Reminds me of finals week back in college, or maybe thesis documentation.

And major digression right there. My train of thought shows that I have become a Beagle myself.

So we went to Circulo Verde on Sunday, October 28, to participate in their Doggie Trick or Treat. It was a free event with lots of food for dogs and humans, and a parade of sorts for dog fashionistas to strut their stuff, and for dog owners to try making their dogs wear clothes.
