Odie and I went out for a walk around the village this afternoon to interact with other dogs and neighbors. I was by my lonesome, and I only have two hands, so I wasn't able to bring a camera to accomplish documenting some of his homework. The Kong toy we're working towards getting, I don't know if we're gonna get, but I'm keeping my hopes up :) I'm also trying to work on loose-leash walking, which I think we're getting pretty good at.
We went to a few houses and met dogs within the neighbors' gates.
Marley, an adult Yellow Labrador Retriever, started barking at us, so Odie and I approached him. When we got near him, they started sniffing each other and maybe wanted to play. I've never seen him walking around the village. He's always there, behind a green gate. We also visited a Pomeranian friend, Fluffy, who was tethered in her home's peach gate, food bowls within reach, and urine all over the floor she was walking on. We met Big Bonnie, an adult Golden Retriever, who was in an elevated cage, and was pretty aggressive. Beside him was Witch, a tiny Chihuahua kept in a smaller elevated cage. When Witch sniffed Odie, he raised a hind leg and tried peeing on Odie! Good thing I was able to pull Odie away! I may have uttered bad words towards Witch, and I'm NOT sorry!!! Last dogs we visited were freely roaming in their garage. It was Lily, a Lemon Beagle, and Sparky, a Black Labrador. They were the happiest ones we interacted with, as Odie just kept playing with them through the gate with wide gaps.
Of course, I made up all those names, because the dog owners weren't around when we were there. So I didn't get to ask. :D
Almost all the dogs we saw today were either tethered to the gate, or confined in steel cages! I've never seen them roaming the streets with their owners, and they all seem to be very aggressive. They're all very beautiful dogs - Labs, Goldens, Poms, even the Aspins looked beautiful! I wonder how they feel though, given their living conditions.
I also wonder how Odie feels about his home. I know we can do better, but I do hope he's liking it so far.
